1998 was the year of the nuclear blasts and missile tests in India and Pakistan, the year
of the Clinton - Lewinsky scandal, the bomb blasts and subsequent retaliation by the US on
Afganistan and Sudan, and the year of US-Iraq tension.
In India, the RSS -- backed BJP came to power, and sectarian strife
gripped the country. All these events affected Akhilesh's writing.
